Block 1 is located in the lower part of the Congo's basin, on Angola's northern offshore. To ease exploration Block 1 was divided in three zones: the carbonatic platform the tertiary basin and the intermediate basin. Most of the existent wells were drilled on the carbonatite shelf.
E&P activity in this Block dates from the early 1970s when the first commercial well was drilled by Texaco. In the first half of the 1980s exploration increased, and from the drilled wells oil and gas were found in commercial quantities.
Field Safueiro from this Block yielded an output of 1,700 bdp.
